Christmas, Advent and Petra

As the Christmas season begins there is a spirit of anticipation in the air. As a child, I remember counting down the days until I would experience Christmas day and the gifts I desired. Sometimes Santa got it right, other times he came close…
The purpose of the advent season is the waiting and anticipation there was of the coming of the Messiah. Imagine what a dark world it must have been before Jesus came. During this time, man was left to himself. We do not wait for Christ to come because He already came over 2000 years ago. We now anticipate and wait for the time to celebrate the Messiah coming.
The writer of Hebrews explains everything comes back to Jesus. Jesus is the one who God speaks through, creates through, He represents God, He upholds all, He made purification of sins and sat down at the right hand of the majesty on High (Hebrews 1:1-4). In summary- this is ALL about Jesus.
Greg X. Volz of Petra had the same sense in 1981 when he wrote and added the song "Without Him We Can Do Nothing" to the Never Say Die Album. The message of the song is clear- Jesus is the only source we have.
Perhaps today you are struggling with issues and situations you never expected to encounter. It could be a temptation you can't overcome, a situation you have no control over, or even a sense that God is not present. Regardless, Today is a good day to be reminded that apart from Him we can do nothing of any significance (John 15:5).
Regardless of what you may be facing the answer is Jesus. Use your situation as motivation to go to Him more than you ever have. Pray to Him, read His Word and confess your need of Him.
As we continue to do this we can sing along with conviction…
"I know, I know where I was when He found me
With so much confusion around me
He's been, He has been all that we would let Him
Without Him we can do nothing"
